Rendering |

Rendering was done with 3D Studio MAX's built-in scanline renderer using image motion blur. In shots that show the Christmas lights I used a video post glow filter with a waveform controller to animate them blinking. Rendering took almost 200 hours at NTSC resolution on my dual Pentium III-600MHz computer with 256MB of RAM. Having dual CPU's helped as it nearly doubled the rendering speed. Memory requirements never exceeded 200MB at TV resolution. However, rendering Ornaments for film would require at least 512MB of RAM to prevent exessive swapping to disk. Final output was rendered to 720x389 uncompressed Targa frames using field rendering. That's a 1.66 aspect ratio squashed vertically by 10% for NTSC.
